@PMONKZ - PRESS RELEASE STATEMENT FROM NONYE TORIA

My Name is Miss Victoria Nonye Okocha, Stage Name Nonye Toria. I was born and raised in Lagos till I left for England at age 13.Music has always been a part of my life since childhood, I stared in Sarafina Musical when I was in St Dominic’s primary school, joined a Mo-Town band at East Berkshire College Langley, UK 2006 where we performed covers from The temptation, Johnny Cash and Old school Blues, I later went on to perform for the Queen of England 2008 from my performing Arts school, the musical we were performing at that time was called “GodSpell” and my number “Day by Day” was the Queens favorite. I was called to perform it to her alongside my colleagues. Later that year, I also appeared in Britain’s largest soap opera “ East enders”. I appeared on a few episodes as well as a lot of musical productions and performed in quite a number of shows.

Coming back to Nigeria August 2011 was the best decision I could make; I was fresh, innovative and had a creative sense. I spent the first six months traveling around Nigeria and Africa. I spent three months in Liberia working with IEDA Relief (international emergency development Agency). I enjoyed the Humanitarian services, so I went on to Ghana and Togo where I recorded a few tracks with Tinnys friend “Eze”. I came back to Nigeria with three tracks and proceeded to working with various producers, picking the right ones and continued the journey of recording my first Album. Music is my passion, I have always listened to the likes of Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Fela, Destiny Childs, Nneka, Cold Play and other various and dynamic Artists etc I was cultivated in the western world, I see music as the medium to the soul. Music heals the world and speaks all languages. I am currently inspired by 2face, Asa, Tiwa Savage, Omawumi. I believe that Nigerian music is the next big thing and would eventually be as dynamic enough to reach all audiences of the world. I look forward to contributing to the Nigerian Music industry.

My Musical Plans for the next few years is to bring back the originality of Afro-pop into the Nigerian Music industry and to establish a presence. A few other personal goals would be achieved too.

Thank you
