We started a journey into the movie industry last week, Poetoby reviewed six movies.
This is the concluding part.
Movie 7
THE FIGURINE
The Figurine is a 2009 Nigerian thriller film written by Kemi Adesoye and produced & directed by Kunle Afolayan who also stars in the film as one of the main protagonists. The film received 10 nominations and won 5 awards at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2010, including the awards for Best Picture, Heart of Africa, AMAA Achievement in Cinematography and AMAA Achievement in Visual Effect.
Movie Summary review:-
Serving at a National Youth Service Corps camp, two friends find a mystical sculpture in an abandoned shrine in the forest, and one of them decides to take the artwork home. Unknown to them, the sculpture is from the Yoruba goddess Araromire which bestows seven years of good luck on anyone who encounters it, and after the seven years have expired, seven years of bad luck follows. The lives of the two friends begin to change for good, as they become successful and wealthy businessmen. However, after seven years things start to change for bad.
Movie 8
IJE
Genres: Drama
Director: Chineze Anyaene
Actors: David Pearl, Linda Brent, Odalys García, Richard Brown.
Movie Review:-
Unprecedented in scope, IJE tells a tale of Chioma, a child growing up in the Nigerian countryside, who warned her restless sister, Anya, about the trappings of the American Dream. Now ten years later, Anya is accused of killing three men in a Hollywood Hills mansion-one of them her record producer-husband. Chioma travels from Nigeria to Los Angeles, and with the help of a young, unproven attorney, discovers that the dark secret her sister wants to keep hidden might be the only thing that can win her freedom.
Movie 9
ARUGBA
The story of a king of an imaginary town who brays against corruption while rigorously prosecuting economic reform and handily welcoming foreign investors: there's no mistaking the parody of former President Obasanjo. The leadership portrait emerges as the key sub plot in a ornate romance featuring the Arugba - the virgin who carries the sacrificial calabash during the Osun Osogbo festival - and a young dancer intent on winning her. Set against the backdrop of a corrupt society seeking cleansing, rebirth and nationhood, with all the attendant intrigues, the Arugba must perform her annual traditional role of carrying the sacrifice in a procession to the river.
Movie 10
PHONE SWAP
Award-Winning Film-maker, Kunle Afolayan collaborates with Kemi Adesoye (the script-writer of movie) to produce an epic Nollywood movie titled ‘ Phone Swap’ The movie (which took 30 days to complete) was shot in Badagry, Lekki and Alausa.
Movie summary:-
The movie revolves around an arrogant business executive and a warm-hearted fashion designer who both exchange lives after accidentally swapping their mobile phones at a busy airport.
The cast of the movie include; fast rising actress,Nse Ikpe-Etim,Chika Chukwu, Wale Ojo, Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya), Joke Silva, Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, Ada Ameh (from Domitila the movie), and many others.
Movie 11
MAAMI
Single parent, MAAMi, and her young son are desperately poor. Gifted with a living heart, enterprising spirit and brave soul, she is the centre of her son’s world, until he longs for the father he has never known – a man with a terrible secret.
Set over a two-day period, leading to the 2010 World Cup, MAAMi is an inspiring story of a poor, conscientious single parent’s struggles to raise her only child, Kashimawo who eventually, rises to intrnational stardom in an English football club, Arsenal, and becomes a national hero.
Adapted by Tunde Babalola, from Femi Osofisan’s novel of the same name, this film about love, perseverance and fate unfolds through Kashimawo’s reminiscences of his hardscrabble childhood in the southern Nigerian town, Abeokuta.
These are the movies, in my own opinion has garnered the industry more fame, and rapid growth. You can leave your comment to further help any future article concerning Movie review on Pmonkz Entertainment blog. Thanks for reading.
