{#PMONKZ MOVIE REVIEW} by POETOBY

We started a journey into the movie industry last week, Poetoby reviewed six movies.
This is the concluding part.

Movie 7
THE FIGURINE

The Figurine is a 2009 Nigerian thriller film written by Kemi Adesoye and produced & directed by Kunle Afolayan who also stars in the film as one of the main protagonists. The film received 10 nominations and won 5 awards at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2010, including the awards for Best Picture, Heart of Africa, AMAA Achievement in Cinematography and AMAA Achievement in Visual Effect.

Movie Summary review:-
Serving at a National Youth Service Corps camp, two friends find a mystical sculpture in an abandoned shrine in the forest, and one of them decides to take the artwork home. Unknown to them, the sculpture is from the Yoruba goddess Araromire which bestows seven years of good luck on anyone who encounters it, and after the seven years have expired, seven years of bad luck follows. The lives of the two friends begin to change for good, as they become successful and wealthy businessmen. However, after seven years things start to change for bad.

Movie 8
IJE

Genres: Drama
Director: Chineze Anyaene
Actors: David Pearl, Linda Brent, Odalys García, Richard Brown.

Movie Review:-
Unprecedented in scope, IJE tells a tale of Chioma, a child growing up in the Nigerian countryside, who warned her restless sister, Anya, about the trappings of the American Dream. Now ten years later, Anya is accused of killing three men in a Hollywood Hills mansion-one of them her record producer-husband. Chioma travels from Nigeria to Los Angeles, and with the help of a young, unproven attorney, discovers that the dark secret her sister wants to keep hidden might be the only thing that can win her freedom.

Movie 9
ARUGBA

The story of a king of an imaginary town who brays against corruption while rigorously prosecuting economic reform and handily welcoming foreign investors: there's no mistaking the parody of former President Obasanjo. The leadership portrait emerges as the key sub plot in a ornate romance featuring the Arugba - the virgin who carries the sacrificial calabash during the Osun Osogbo festival - and a young dancer intent on winning her. Set against the backdrop of a corrupt society seeking cleansing, rebirth and nationhood, with all the attendant intrigues, the Arugba must perform her annual traditional role of carrying the sacrifice in a procession to the river.

Movie 10
PHONE SWAP

Award-Winning Film-maker, Kunle Afolayan collaborates with Kemi Adesoye (the script-writer of movie) to produce an epic Nollywood movie titled ‘ Phone Swap’ The movie (which took 30 days to complete) was shot in Badagry, Lekki and Alausa.

Movie summary:-
The movie revolves around an arrogant business executive and a warm-hearted fashion designer who both exchange lives after accidentally swapping their mobile phones at a busy airport.

The cast of the movie include; fast rising actress,Nse Ikpe-Etim,Chika Chukwu, Wale Ojo, Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya), Joke Silva, Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, Ada Ameh (from Domitila the movie), and many others.

Movie 11
MAAMI

Single parent, MAAMi, and her young son are desperately poor. Gifted with a living heart, enterprising spirit and brave soul, she is the centre of her son’s world, until he longs for the father he has never known – a man with a terrible secret.

Set over a two-day period, leading to the 2010 World Cup, MAAMi is an inspiring story of a poor, conscientious single parent’s struggles to raise her only child, Kashimawo who eventually, rises to intrnational stardom in an English football club, Arsenal, and becomes a national hero.

Adapted by Tunde Babalola, from Femi Osofisan’s novel of the same name, this film about love, perseverance and fate unfolds through Kashimawo’s reminiscences of his hardscrabble childhood in the southern Nigerian town, Abeokuta.

These are the movies, in my own opinion has garnered the industry more fame, and rapid growth. You can leave your comment to further help any future article concerning Movie review on Pmonkz Entertainment blog. Thanks for reading.

THIS IS IT by SPICY

This Is It, a song written by a wonderfully talented and creative young man, SPICY.

The song is an evaluation of exactly what true love is, in his own realization of it- YOU and ME.

The voice has as much energy as the beat, and would take you on a journey of your own evaluation.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH CYNTHIA MORGAN

Party Monkz Entertainment interviewed the new sensation in Naija music, a sexy female, Miss Cynthia. She talks about her life and her upcoming tracks. Read and enjoy.

* PME :  Please give us a brief bio, where you are from and how you started in this field?
I am  Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan. 20year old, from Edo State .Benin City, Nigeria . I am the only child of my Mom.

* PME :   When did you first discover your creative talents?

Right from when I was a child. I always had a flair and love for music, from the children choir to the senior choir. I was in senior choir at the age of 16 because of how grown I was in my music despite my age. I was also in scripture union choir in high school and always took the lead in everything. I and two other of my friends formed a group in high school. I also started composing my personal songs in high school.

* PME :    What did your family do to encourage you?

My mom supported me financially by paying for all my demo sessions. She also assisted in searching for a label for me. She was my first manager. She inspires me in every way. My mum personally never altered my choice of music, because she’s a gospel artist .She is the lead vocalist of her musical band which I was her backup singer and her talking drummer for years. My mom definitely knows what it feels like to be in love with music. But, everyone else complained and later supported when they saw how serious and talented I was.

* PME :    What inspires you most in life?

My environment, my background. I come from a broken home. I was raised by a single parent ( My mom). So, I know what it feels like to be alone in your own world as a single child and being neglected by your own father. I am always determined and focused as failure isn’t an option because I have a mom to do proud.

* PME :    What is your motto or the advice you live by?

All good things come to those that wait. Though it may tarry, but it must surely come to pass.

* PME :    Ten years from now you will be....?

Best-selling African international artist

* PME :    Any influences or anyone you look up to musically?

Old School: UB40, Damian Marley, Fela, Brenda Fasi,

New School:Ciara, Nas, JayZ, Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Drake , Lil Wayne ,  Nicky Minaj, and 2FACE

* PME :    Any interests, other than music?

Yes. Business  and Politics. lol

* PME :    Do you play any instruments?

The Talking drum.  I got interest in learning how to play the piano and the guitar

* PME :    Have you always enjoyed the art of music?

Yes, right from childhood. I grew up in a musical background were all my family loved music and I was exposed to listening to all genre of music. This exposure made me a very versatile and creative artiste.

* PME :    Any celeb crushes?

Hehehehe….Yes! Drake,  Kirko Bangz, Trey Songz and JCole. Let me not be too far from home in other words in Nigeria? Non, or maybe D’banj.

* PME : What song did u listen to this morning?

Drake and Timberland (Say Something)

* PME : If you would be someone else for a day, who would you be?

Bill Gates.

* PME : What can't you go a day without?.

Prayers. This is because consciously and unconsciously, I am always praying, even while I am walking on the street. lol

* PME : For our readers who have never heard you, explain your music in 5 words?

My music is distinct, fresh, Fun, Inspirational and “New world order”.

* PME: Tell your fans about your upcoming tracks.
I call my fans my (Marshal’s) , so I am going to start by saying, I am loyal to all my Marshal’s out there. Thanks for the love and support so far. My two singles titled “Ojoro” and “High.High.High” is something distinct, that is the only word I can use as description. Just be at alert. raaaaa…love you’all. xoxo

* PME :    One word for your fans.

LEGGO (MARSHAL’S), IT IS THEIR WATCH, CHECK THE TIME, IT IS OUR TIME…*SMILES…

Analysis on DAVIDO

After reading this epistle, you might probably be of the opinion that the Omo Baba Olowo paid me to do this, but in sincere truth, i will want to confide in you that i got to establish my respect for  Davido as an act a couple hours before writing this. I will be quick to add that Davido is an act i never believed at inception.
Back when he first dropped officially with Naeto C, he struck me like a wannabe. His music never had any connections with me. He was further disadvantaged because as at his time of entrance, "the" Wizkid was red hot and in vogue.
Although at inception, a lot of people saw him as a direct competition with Wizzy, he just never occurred to me in that light. A couple people will at least agree with me that the track 'Back When' is just off the mediocre category.
Hard-working Davido later dropped 'Dami duro' which did very well commercially after he spent a whole lot of cash promoting it, but sincerely the commercial success did not move me. The song was just another track by another new arrival. Dami duro got all the airplay any song could have gotten. It was well slammed on all radio stations, clubs and parties. Someone even told me that whenever you buy a memory card from the very popular computer village at Ikeja Lagos, Dami duro is a gift on the card, that's how far the promotions went.
With all this hardwork, i still never got impressed with Davido, that doesn't happen a lot. Whenever i told people that Davido is yet to earn my respect as an artiste, i usually get a grin, but i cared less.
Bad news for me, O.B.O Davido never cared about my views and opinion, he kept doing what he knows how to do best, dropping Ekuro, a love song which caught up with several fans, especially those of the female folks.
Ekuro is another song which i must say sincerely did well and still doing well commercially. The song came into the factory and has stood the test of time. Let me be quick to add that all three tracks have got very beautiful videos, but i still wasn't impressed.
I know by now, u'll be wondering what then got me to respect Davido, how did he please me? Back when, Dami duro, and then Ekuro and i wasn't impressed, how then will i be?
I have many a times had discussions with other music critics like Pmonkz of Pmonkz entertainment about Davido, but only a few belong to my school of thought. Others see Davido as an act who has come to stay. I never argued their opinions though and it never stood in the way of mine.
Nemesis caught up with me a few weeks back when i was on a radio show at Unique Fm Ilesha Osun state where Davido's No visa was played. This song got me. Being a lil egoistic, having full knowledge of the fact that people around know my view of Davido, i decided not to talk much about the song, but indeed this song arrested me. In a couple minutes, i had started singing along.
No visa, a song which was done on the same beat with 'Move it' by Skuki got me stunned. Davido's delivery on that beat was superb. I had no choice than to ask for a replay by Dj Shinog.
I did not get the title of the song, so downloading it was a little difficult. I did not want to ask anyone around as they knew my view of Davido, so i decided to confide in google. I got the song downloaded and it was on replay for days with an estimated play of over 300 times.
No visa, a song on which he featured his cohort Shina Rambo, earned Davido my respect. Contratry to my friend Tosin Adeda of Radiopalmwine's opinnion of Shina, i think he did well too on that song.
This song made me do a thorough analysis on Davido and his music and i came up with the conclusion that asides bad manners and pride, Davido is one of the most talented acts we have around who is set for the larger stages of the world. He's indeeed got talents. He's got what it takes to be here a while longer than imagined. I know a couple peeps who will mail me after reading this to either laugh at me or mock me, but quote me anywhere "Wale Applause said Davido is here to stay".

Wale disses VEC n REM

Several weeks have gone past after the release of the distractive track by AQ and Vector, i decided to give it a listening ear as i earlier had been busy with things, listening to several upcoming acts and new arrivals who do good music.
It was intentional that i did not give in to distractions as there are several other useful things to be taken care of in the music factory.
I know this short epistle will raise eyebrows amidst both Vector and Reminisce fans, but before you make any comments, remember i don't and won't sing, i'm just doing my job as a music factory critic.
I would start this lamentation from the rear, talking about the most recent distraction that happened in the music factory. When i first heard the news of the track, i somewhat knew what to expect from a former UniLag graduate. I expected good and polished english, but i just did not expect VEC to go very personal. One question that always stood on my mind ever since was, why would these dudes decide to go live back in the past? Come to think of it, asides the good use of words, that track was indeed a distraction. Who's more commercial, Reminisce or Vector? I leave you to that.
Back in the days when beef tracks were made, they were done with a lot of considerations, for the enjoyment of the fans, but what's in it, that is to be enjoyed. Go ask Abolore how a diss track is made.
Although, a couple facts could be picked from VEC, but as an artiste with mutual respect for a fellow artiste's career, i think that was poor. As a critic, i could also be of the school of thought that the beat made kako bi chicken, in other words, Reminisce gotta get more clinical. I wouldn't say the video was low budget because fingers aint equal, i'll rather call it an eye sore of a video.
Take a cue from the days of Tupac and Biggie. If they were alive, they would have been in their early 40s. One fact is, no matter how hard you diss each other, you'll never attain that legendary status, so what's your gain?
Even back here at home, this same saga left a man as a lyricist on the roll, the other struggling with commercial music, don't ask me who.
I suggest, it's high time both of you got matured. Think about the fans, do good music, let sorrows be forgotten, make your money and go live your life.
Diss tracks don't have to get very personal, even MI did his maturedly and on a spectacular beat.
Pardon me as i remind you both that your first albums book of rap nonsense and rubbish state of surprise were commercial failures and you both got wack videos for good songs, Angeli and Kako bi chicken, so why the cry?
I won't pitch my tent with any of you dudes, as you obviously care more about ego than enjoyment of your fans.
Even the young lad, Olamide, whom reports previously said dissed Choc boiz, refuted this as he saw no gain in it, a more concerned artistes about his fans enjoyment.
To Reminisce, i will succinctly say to you that as this 'ego competition' goes, you're loosing. My advice for you is that, you drop a good response and end this once and for all. I wouldn't be in a position to tell you what to do, but i'll advise you take a cue from 9ice's 'Talk i'm listening'.
Finally, i will also advise that you should be more concerned about your commercial success, because if you dudes continue like this, you'll end up in the category of popular broke rap stars. So in a few words, i ask that you wisen up. Peace.
I actually mean no harm.
